The 2018 Hobsonville Point Runway Challenge was a roaring success. On Sunday 20 May, 389 people congregated at Hobsonville Point Primary School to participate in a 3, 5 or 10km cross country, run or walking race (or both).

Being the 9th annual Runway Challenge, this year’s participants were a mix of familiar faces and new recruits.

The racing routes were designed to take participants through the interesting and historic surrounds of the old Hobsonville Airbase and the remaining buildings of the NZ Air Force. Each race included an optional obstacle course for participants to conquer (and get a little bit muddy too).

Each participant received a medal and a goody bag at the end of the event, with the Riverhead Scouts and Waimauku Scouts winning the team draw and a $500 prize.

Adding to the fun, stalls and entertainment kept up the energy long after our participants crossed the finish line, including cake stalls and hot food.

All proceeds from the day’s event are channelled back to the community through the Henderson-West Auckland Lions Club Charitable Trust.

The Runway Challenge is an annual event run by the Hobsonville Land Company and the Henderson-West Auckland Lions Club. Of course, an event like this does not happen without the support of the community. Thank you to all of the local sponsors and volunteers, the Waitakere Cadets and the Girl Guides for putting on another successful event.

See you next year.
