Catalina Bay is about to get even better, with the addition of a brand new Marine Recreation Centre and Jetty! Construction is about to get underway for the first stage of the project, which includes the platform, jetty, and water access. While the initial stage of work is handled by Kāinga Ora, the centre is being constructed by the Hobsonville Point Marine Sports Recreation Centre Charitable Trust and will commence after the first stage has finished.

We’ve been planning this for years, so it’s exciting to know that it won’t be long until people can use it for rowing, sailing and Waka Ama activities. The jetty will also provide public water access, so everyone can enjoy Catalina Bay.

The Hobsonville Point development team had a site blessing and ground breaking ceremony for the project on the 9th of May led by Te Kawerau ā Maki.

A small area of the coastal walkway will be closed to the public for the duration of the project for safety reasons and an alternative route has been put in place so that everyone can still enjoy the coastal walkway. There will be clearly marked signs to guide you on the short detour.

Stage 1 (being the Marine Recreation Centre platform, jetty and water access) is due to be completed by the end of 2023.
