The Community Garden at Hobsonville Point Park has 29 raised garden beds bursting with lush vegetables, fruit and flowers; the product of the hard work of some dedicated Hobsonville Point residents who tend to the plots.
Gardeners enjoy the social benefits of tending to the gardens and the continuous opportunities to learn and hone their ‘green thumb’ by sharing, helping and attending workshops and demonstrations run by the Compost Collective, the Hobsonville Herb Group and the Kaipatiki Project. Excess produce is placed in a stand out the front of the garden from which the local community can help themselves, and the herbs growing at the front of the garden are also free for anyone to use.
The community garden is a mixture of community plots and allocated plots held by individuals, families or groups. Allotment holders contribute a small sum each year towards fertiliser, equipment and water rates. For more information about the community gardens, email catalinacommunitygarden@gmail.com.
