Hobsonville Point’s former Rifle Range has been transformed from an area of practice to one of performance.

The former Air Force facility, which was once used for rifle shooting and target practice, is now a community facility home to a stage area, terraced seating, public toilets and a table tennis table. Communal games and outdoor furniture are also stored onsite, providing plenty of options for people to enjoy the space.

The facility hosted its first event last month, with the opening of the outdoor amphitheatre drawing a large and enthusiastic turnout. Local dancers and musicians, including the ‘Hobby Hipsters’ band, wowed the crowd and provided a fitting first performance for this new venue.

The Rifle Range is on the Coastal Walkway along Bomb Point Drive. In coming months, the facility will be transferred to ownership by Auckland Council which will manage it going forward.
